We currently have an opening for a HACCP / Audit Practitioner at our Waterloo facility located at 35 Northland Road.

The HACCP / Audit Practitioner implements food safety programs for the facility and ensures adherence to required food safety laws, regulations, company policies and practices. Has the authority to suspend operations when serious food safety risks are identified. Responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance, and validation of the plant's HACCP and SQF programs.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees the development, implementation, review and maintenance of the HACCP Plan
  • Ensures regulatory compliance with CFIA’s FSEP Manual and the SQF Code, which includes but is not limited to Prerequisite Programs, Policies, SOPs, etc.
  • Monitors and verifies food safety programs and facility practices, then takes appropriate action to ensure the integrity of HACCP and SQF Systems
  • Performs internal audits and program reassessments annually
  • Effective communication of program requirements to relevant personnel to ensure implementation of FSEP, HACCP and SQF requirements
  • Ensures compliance with Customer requirements
  • GMP and Technical training of personnel on HACCP/SQF programs for hourly and salary employees
  • Primary liaison with CFIA inspectors, third party auditors, and customers
  • Provides food safety support and expertise to Production, R&D, Purchasing, Shipping, Maintenance and Sanitation
  • Ensures follow-through and completion of non-compliance and deviation investigations conducted by QA Compliance Technicians and QA Technicians
  • Researches and stays well-informed of changes to applicable regulations
  • Provides support and guidance to QA Compliance Technicians and QA Technicians
  • Ensures appropriate product holds and dispositions
  • Provide technical documentation for testing of products and raw materials
  • Other duties as assigned

ABILITIES and PERSONALITY TRAITS:

  • Interpersonal and organizational leadership skills along with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities and the ability to work effectively in a team
  • Highly detail oriented

EDUCATION:

  • HACCP Certified
  • Internal Auditor Certified
  • Completion of Vocational/Technical specialty certification/licensure program in a related science or food safety field.
  • University degree or college diploma in related discipline of Food Safety

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 2-3 years experience in a similar role
  • 3-5 years in the food industry ideally including technical, and food safety
  • Working knowledge of FSEP, HACCP, and SQF/BRC requirements
  • Proven leader and team motivator with leadership
  • Thorough understanding of statistical process controls
  • Knowledge of customer complaint investigation and resolution skills
  • In depth knowledge of federal FSEP requirements
  • Quality systems development experience with vendor auditing
  • Proficient with MS Suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required as well as with internal label system
  • Thorough technical knowledge of quality & food safety is required
